Affordable, Flexible, Beautiful Designs for your Home
home interior decorating and styling
This client wanted a sophisticated, comfortable living area for curling up with a book and entertaining friends. I recommended this modern / classic sofa in plush gray velvet, which will give her and her guests a comfortable spot to chat for hours. The leather chairs bring in an stylish splash complete with beautiful textile cushions. The matte finish media console with brass accents lends a coordinated geometric pattern to the area rug and provides lots of storage for this city apartment. I placed an antique peacock mirror above and styled the console with beautiful accessories that complement the color palette throughout the room.
Warm, rich, bohemian textiles with a mid-century modern twist are the best words to describe this bedroom. The client wanted to combine the rustic style with a bohemian flair and clean lines. Grasscloth wallpaper gives the room a great warm backdrop and then we added walnut end tables in a mid-century modern style, a modern oatmeal linen bed touches of leather. The Persian, hand-knotted rug mixed with indigo dyed and vintage rug pillows bring in a beautiful global vibe.
This client wanted to decorate her husband's office and den. She was looking for something that reflected his adventurous personality and his passion for the great outdoors, while still giving a classic, but modern, feeling. The design was inspired by this "National Parks" print - to complement the art, we painted the walls a smoky green. The maple and Sergeant Green steel base desk. We included a rich leather chair to watch football and to bring in chic warmth. A graphic, black and white area rug and a concrete side table complete the space - a masculine space that he loved!
This couple wanted a neutral palette that felt warm with touches of Scandinavian / farmhouse. We worked with their existing gray palette by bringing in natural wood tones from the dining table, the side chairs and the art frame. To bring in texture, linen arm chairs were placed at the ends of the farmhouse style table. Oatmeal linen roman shades adorn the window and a warm white hutch stores their barware and dishes against a large, empty wall. A low, indoor / outdoor rug in a simple pattern brings in a soft texture that is durable and easy to clean.
BROTHER + SISTER
Even though this brother/sister duo get along well, their mom wanted to be sure that their bedroom was functional for both children. Kid bedrooms don't have to be "themed" to be meaningful, but since this family loves to travel, we incorporated world memorabilia, like a beautiful hand-painted globe, framed illustrated city prints and artist collaborated "map" bedding. Colorful details were added in the pillows, bedding and rug as well as functional storage for books and toys. The walls were painted a misty blue / green and added a flat roman shade in a green linen. A mint green hippo hamper is used for extra storage and a bit of whimsy.
This couple lives in Southern California and they wanted their bedroom to reflect the peace + happiness that they feel from the California coastline. Decorating with seashells and jars of sand wasn't what we had in mind, so we opted for a soft palette, natural linen and glass lamps with touches of soft blues, blush pink and sandy neutrals. A seagrass bench is at the foot of the linen tufted bed. We used natural wood tones in the Gustavian chest to complement the white oak hardwood floors. Accents of gilded gold, artistic textiles, marbled plant art and color-blocked pinch pleat drapes complete the room.
COLORFUL YOUNG FAMILY
A family with three small elementary aged children wanted a comfortable, livable space for their family to watch TV and spend quality time together. Their style was "cozy, colorful, modern American". This deep sectional sofa with performance fabric that is perfect for families. A big area rug made of soft denim in a herringbone pattern was a great fit for this space and then we added in lots of colorful details in pillows, a bright red desk for their computer by the window and a bookcase for storage. Wood details bring warmth to the room, and the accessories and gold details of the lamp create sophistication, while still keeping it livable for this family.
A family with small children (and a new puppy!) needed some help with their large entry. My client wanted storage behind her front door as well as a mirrored console with a seating area on the large wall at the entrance near her staircase. She described her style as a combination of traditional + modern so I combined classic pieces like a wood console with a more modern, mirrored geometric design, beautiful cream linen chairs with nailhead trim and pillows with a traditional floral done in a modern large-scale print. For storage, I suggested this art-deco inspired hall tree with benches and drawers.
This split level home is actually mine! Our budget wasn't huge and it's not a very big space, so we kept the same layout and took out one set of upper cabinets and added open shelving to lighten things up. The rest of the upper cabinets were painted white and the lower cabinets (and pantry) were painted a smoke green finished with antique brass hardware. In lieu of a custom island, we added two bar tables made of oak and marble and can use them for extra seating as well as prep space. This adds flexibility and function to a multi-purpose room in an open concept home. Black touches and a vintage rug bring interest and warmth.
