This client wanted a sophisticated, comfortable living area for watching TV, curling up with a book and entertaining friends. I recommended the lounge sofa in Performance Velvet which will give her and her guests a comfortable spot to chat for hours, along with an ottoman topped with a gilded gold tray for drinks. The leather chair, with its modern wing-back style, is a timeless piece that I placed next to a gold end table, perfect for a cup of tea next to a natural basket for soft blankets. The matte finish media console with brass accents lends a coordinated geometric pattern to the area rug and provides lots of storage for this city apartment. I placed an antiqued Moroccan gilded mirror behind the television as well. The height of the console will be perfect for movie watching in relation to the sofa height, but the mirror provided some added height and glamour to the room.
Warm, rich + bohemian textiles with a mid-century modern twist are the best words to describe this bedroom we helped this client create. She wanted to combine the "Old World" style with a bohemian flair and clean lines. Grasscloth wallpaper gives the room a great warm backdrop and then we added walnut end tables in a mid-century modern style, a modern oatmeal linen bed and an indigo grasscloth dresser. The Persian rug mixed with the Suzani, Tahitian stitched + indigo dyed pillows bring in a beautiful global vibe.
This client wanted to decorate her husband's office and den. She was looking for something that reflected his adventurous personality and his passion for the great outdoors, while still giving a classic, but modern, feeling. The design was inspired by this "National Parks" print and this reclaimed wood and industrial steel desk. We included a rich leather chair to watch his beloved football, warm wood tones + gold accents to create a chic warmth. Then we added graphic pillows, a striped area rug and a concrete side table. A masculine space that he loved!
NEW BRITISH COLONIAL
This client loves British Colonial style but also wanted it to feel fresh and updated. We implemented a lot of traditional English design elements; like an English roll arm sectional, spindle legs on the coffee table and a pair of wicker chairs. Then we brought beautiful, colorful elements; like blue + white vases with palm fronds, pops of glossy red in pillows and a modern fretwork bookcase as well as a hand-carved Jaipur bone inlay mirror. I also was mindful to incorporate several authentic pieces that are made by local, fair-trade companies where the profits go towards empowering women in impoverished countries (specifically India and Thailand, my client's home country).
This couple lives in Southern California and they wanted their bedroom to be a retreat that reflected the peace + happiness that they feel in the sunshine of the California coastline. Decorating with seashells and jars of sand wasn't what we had in mind, so instead we opted for a soft palette, natural linen and glass lamps. A seagrass bench is at the foot of the linen tufted bed. We used natural wood tones in the Gustavian chest and driftwood mirror, added in a jute rug layered with a pale blue modern trellis rug. Ship lap was put on the walls to give a "beach cottage" feel to the room.
COLORFUL YOUNG FAMILY
A family with three small elementary aged children and wanted a comfortable, livable space for their family to watch TV and spend quality time together. We used a deep sectional sofa with performance fabric that is perfect for families. A big area rug made of soft denim in a herringbone pattern is classic and then we added in lots of colorful details in pillows, a bright red desk for their computer by the window and a blue accent of the built-in's wall. Metallic accents in the quatrefoil mirror, hexagon gold side table and gold legs of the desk, created sophistication while still keeping it livable for this family.
GOLD SKY BEDROOM
This client's favorite color is yellow and she wanted a cheerful space for her bedroom that still seemed grown-up and peaceful. We created a neutral base for the room by using a taupe upholstered bed, geometric rug, soft touches of metallic gold in the end tables, agate art frames, dresser hardware and mirror and then added in bright pops of yellow in the chair and the textiles. The bedding is a simple white with a gold border to keep it fresh and clean while adding in some interest.
BROTHER + SISTER
Even though this brother/sister duo get along splendidly, their mom wanted to be sure that this toddler bedroom was functional for both children. Kid bedrooms don't have to be "themed" to be meaningful, but since this family loves to travel, we incorporated world memorabilia, like a beautiful hand-painted globe + framed illustrated city prints. Colorful details were added in the pillows, bedding and rug as well as functional storage for books and toys. We also incorporated some special hanging lights in colorful spheres and a mint green toy chest for extra storage.
A family with small children (and a new puppy!) needed some help with their large entry. My client wanted storage behind her front door as well as a mirrored console with a seating area on the large wall at the entrance near her staircase. She described her style as a combination of traditional + modern so I combined classic pieces like a wood console with a more modern, mirrored geometric design, beautiful cream linen chairs with nailhead trim and pillows with a traditional floral done in a modern large-scale print. For storage, I suggested this art-deco inspired hall tree with benches and drawers.
Hollywood Regency style is full of glitz and glamour, which this client loved, but she also wanted to incorporate more transitional pieces into her large master bedroom. We started with a statement peacock velvet tufted bed and added mirrored stools, a bright crewelwork rug, touches of gold and colorful, lacquered lamps. A trio of gold-leaf convex mirrors above the bed and a chandlier created a focal point that tied in the other gold finishes throughout the room.
